TRD/Michael Waltrip Racing Inc. 1/1/2007 Tom Jr. accepts "Engine Tuner" position at Toyota Racing Development (TRD) on the #44 UPS Toyota Team for Michael Waltrip Racing Inc. for crew chief Matt Borland and Jason Burdett and driver Dale Jarrett.
Dale Earnhardt Inc. (DEI) 7/1/2006 Tom Jr. accepts "Engine Tuner" and "Catch Can Man" positions on the #1 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet Team at Dale Earnhardt Inc. (DEI) for crew chief Kevin "Bono" Manion and driver Martin Truex Jr.
During the 2006 season Tom Jr. participated in the restrictor plate program, engineering a new restrictor plate race engine for the #1 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet. Tom's engine package was run in the #1 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet car at Talladega Superspeedway which qualified 5th and finished the race in 3rd place.
